What exactly is PS? PS (polystyrene) is a polymer produced by free radical polycondensation of styrene monomer. PS plastic includes ordinary polystyrene (GPPS) and (HIPS). The characteristics of PS material are high transparency, its light transmittance can reach more than 90%, good electrical insulation, easy to color, good fluidity in production and processing, Good rigidity and good chemical corrosion resistance.
1. General characteristics of PS
PS is a colorless transparent granule that emits black smoke and smells of turpentine when burned, and can be stretched when blown out; the quality of the product is as hard as glass, and it will produce a sound similar to metal materials when it is touched or knocked; it can be broken but not bent , the fracture shows a clamshell-colored silver light. The moisture content of PS is 0.05%, which is slightly higher than that of PE, but it does not interfere much with the strength and dimensional stability of the product.
2. Optical properties of PS
Good transparency is the main feature of PS. The light transmittance can reach 88%~92%. Like PC and PMMA, it is the most excellent transparent plastic variety. It is called three kinds of transparent plastics in the industry market.
3. Mechanical properties of PS
PS is hard and brittle, has no extensibility, and breaks when it is stretched to the vicinity of the yield point. The tensile strength and bending of PS are the highest among general-purpose thermoplastics, and its tensile strength can reach 60MPa; but its impact strength is small, so it is difficult to be used as an engineering plastic. PS has poor wear resistance and average creep resistance. The mechanical properties of PS are greatly disturbed with temperature.
4. Thermal properties of PS
The heat resistance of PS is not good, the heat distortion temperature is only 70~90℃, so it can only be used in the temperature range of 60~80℃ for a long time. The low temperature resistance of PS is also poor, and the embrittlement temperature is -30°C.
5. Electrical characteristics of PS
PS has good electrical insulation and will not be disturbed by temperature and humidity. It has a small dielectric loss tangent, can withstand moderate corona discharge, and has good arc resistance. It is suitable for high-frequency insulating layer materials.
6. Chemical resistance of PS
PS has good chemical stability and is resistant to common acids, alkalis, salts, mineral oils and lower alcohols, but can be corroded by many hydrocarbons, ketones and higher fatty acids, and is soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons. PS has poor weather resistance, poor light resistance and oxidation resistance, and is not suitable for long-term outdoor applications; but PS has good radiation resistance.

PET material structure and properties

PET is a typical semi-crystalline polymer with a glass transition temperature Tg of about 70 degrees Celsius and a melting point of about 240 degrees Celsius. Due to its excellent comprehensive performance, PET materials are mainly used in various bottle-grade shells, polyester films and mechanical and electronic industries, such as film, packaging, chemical fiber materials, electronic devices, etc.
